Dr McGlonn's works is both centering and inspiring. Her new book, The Leader's Work, is deeply intentional from the quotes and affirmations to the weekly prompts guiding a slow, reflective approach to leading from within. Her encouragement to be your authentic self, in all aspects of your life, has personally made an impact on how I engage within my business and colleagues.
Across her writing and teaching, Dr. McGlonn offers an exhilarating call to exercise moral leadership through social entrepreneurship. In her book "Build It Boldy," she makes the case for why we should lead with ethical intention. And now, in "The Leader's Work," she offers a guided practice for cultivating clear purpose, courageous action, and sustainable abundance.
I'm about three months into the year-long series of journal prompts, inspiring quotes, affirmations, and warm letters of wisdom from Dr. McGlonn. The first few months are focused on finding moral clarity and coherence through practices of stillness, silence, and solitude, all of which allow us to truly hear what our spirits are calling us to do.
As I've worked through these early chapters, I've found myself often choosing to do less, but more deeply. I’m moving more slowly through some of the many tasks I’ve set myself to handle for my business. I’m giving myself more time to think. To listen to my heart. To be still and reflective. To receive the messages meant especially for me as I find my own most useful place on the front lines of our many existential threats and transformative possible futures.
I look forward to continuing my reflections, with Dr. McGlonn's guidance, for the rest of the year. I'm all in on her exhilarating call to brave leadership, not in addition to our entrepreneurship, but through it.
Dr. McGlonn is a gem! This book is beautiful and layered, and each pass brings more clarity!
This book doesn’t just sit on your shelf and look pretty (although it is beautiful!), it nudges you into taking action.
What makes this book stand out is how seamlessly it weaves personal story with practical guidance. The book is a call to build with intention and the message is clear: success doesn’t have to come at the expense of people or the planet. Instead, Dr. McGlonn challenges you to rethink leadership as a vehicle for impact, legacy, and responsibility.
Within the pages, you have tangible frameworks, reflective questions, and hopefully, a renewed sense of clarity around your “why.” It’s both grounding and energizing, like a strategy session that also happens to refill your emotional tank.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a team leader, or just someone trying to build something meaningful, its a powerful reminder that leadership is about intention, integrity, and the courage to do things differently.
I’ve been using The Leader’s Work for the past two months, and it has been a powerful tool in helping me slow down and focus on the inner work of leadership. This workbook creates space to reflect more deeply—on my mindset, my responses, and the kind of leader I want to become. It’s a reminder that effective leadership truly starts from within.
The book itself is beautifully designed and thoughtfully laid out, which makes engaging with it feel intentional and even refreshing. There’s ample room to write and process, and each section guides you in a way that feels both structured and personal.
What has made the experience even more meaningful is working through it with a group of leaders who meet quarterly. That shared journey adds accountability, insight, and encouragement as we each commit to growing from the inside out.
I would highly recommend The Leader’s Work to any leader who is committed to doing the deeper, internal work required for lasting impact.
